The first sentence determines whether a hiring manager reads the rest. Here's the opening pattern that works for QA Engineer roles — specific, relevant, and impossible to ignore.
"I built a QA programme from zero at a startup that scaled from 4 to 35 engineers — 1,600-test automated suite, 82% coverage, CI/CD integrated, and I personally found the 28 critical bugs that would have hit production in our payment flow."
This works because it leads with a specific, quantified achievement that directly maps to what the employer is hiring for. No generic enthusiasm. No restating the job title.
These are the signals QA Engineer hiring managers are screening for. Make sure your body paragraphs address at least 2–3 of these directly.
Three parts. Under 300 words. Every sentence earns its place or it comes out.
Mention the role by name and lead immediately with your strongest relevant qualification or achievement.
"I am writing to apply for the QA Engineer position I found on LinkedIn."
Mirror 2–3 requirements from the job description with your evidence. Use numbers. Keep under 200 words total.
"I am a hard worker with excellent communication skills and a passion for technology."
One sentence on why this company specifically. Then ask directly for the interview.
"I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience."
Your automation stack, the scale of testing you have managed (test count, coverage %), a specific defect or bug you found that had meaningful business impact, and your philosophy on quality — do you focus on shift-left testing, risk-based testing, exploratory testing? Show you think about quality strategically, not just tactically.
Show any automation scripts you have written, even personal projects. Mention your progress on learning a framework (Cypress, Playwright, Selenium). Emphasise your deep domain knowledge of the product under test — automation engineers who understand the business logic write far better tests than those who only know the framework.
Paste the job description. HireSprint AI writes a tailored cover letter using the structure above — specific to the role, free to generate.
