AI resume builders have exploded. Every week there's a new tool claiming it'll get you hired faster, score higher on ATS, and write your entire resume in seconds. Some of them are genuinely useful. Most are not. We tested the most popular options end-to-end — same resume, same job descriptions, measured by ATS score, tailoring quality, and actual callback rates from real users.
The tools we tested: HireSprint, Jobscan, Teal, Enhancv, Resume.io, Kickresume, Rezi, and LinkedIn's native resume builder. Here's what we found.
What makes an AI resume builder actually good?
Not all 'AI resume builders' use AI the same way. There are three categories:
- Template fillers with AI polish: These use AI to suggest wording or check grammar — but they don't read the job description and they don't tailor anything. Most builders fall into this category.
- ATS keyword checkers: These compare your resume against a job description and tell you which keywords you're missing. Useful, but you still have to do the editing yourself.
- Full AI tailoring systems: These read the job description, understand the role, and rewrite your resume specifically for that application — bullets, summary, skills. This is where real ROI lives.
#1 HireSprint — Best Overall AI Resume Builder
HireSprint leads the field because it's built around the job description, not the resume in isolation. Paste your CV and the job description — in 60 seconds, you get a fully tailored resume with ATS score, keyword gap analysis, and a rewritten summary. The ATS guarantee (80+ or it keeps optimising) removes the guesswork entirely.
- Full AI rewrite per job description in 60 seconds
- ATS score guarantee: 80+ every time
- Auto-Apply: fills and submits application forms for you
- AI Job Hunter: finds and scores fresh roles daily across 14 countries
- Interview prep, salary benchmarking, and career strategy included
- Starting at $19/month
#2 Jobscan — Best for ATS Keyword Analysis
Jobscan is the oldest ATS checker and still one of the best for pure keyword analysis. It gives you a detailed match score and shows exactly which terms are missing. The weakness: it identifies the problems but doesn't fix them. You still have to rewrite your resume yourself. Good as a diagnostic tool; limited as an execution tool. From $29.95/month.
#3 Rezi — Best ATS-Focused Resume Builder
Rezi has built its entire product around ATS compatibility — and it shows. Their templates are deliberately plain and ATS-safe, their keyword analysis is strong, and their AI content suggestions are decent. Where it falls behind HireSprint: it builds a good resume, but it doesn't tailor it per application, and there's no auto-apply or job hunting feature. From $29/month.
#4 Teal — Best for Job Search Organisation
Teal's strength is tracking, not writing. Their kanban job tracker is genuinely excellent — probably the best in the market. The resume builder is clean and their AI suggestions are helpful. But Teal is a job search organizer, not a job search accelerator. If you want to track applications you've manually found and applied to, Teal is great. If you want to find, apply, and win jobs faster, it's not the tool.
The bottom line
For most active job seekers in 2025, HireSprint wins. The combination of job-specific AI tailoring + ATS guarantee + auto-apply is a category above competitors. Jobscan and Rezi are worth knowing about for ATS keyword work. Teal is excellent if organisation is your priority. Everyone else is template builders with AI marketing.
If you're actively job searching right now, start with HireSprint's free tier: 3 tailored applications, no credit card. You'll see the ATS score difference in the first application.
